Since 1902 Independence Days (formerly known as Western Days) has been an exciting celebration in Independence, Oregon that draws thousands of people from across the pacific northwest to participate in the traditions of an American hometown Fourth of July.

Enjoy fun activities for all ages as our community comes together to celebrate the birth of our great nation. Not only is this traditionally a giant community-wide annual homecoming of family and friends, it also serves as an opportunity for us to welcome visitors and create new friendships as you explore the bounty that Independence has to offer. Hopefully, this glorious celebration of the Fourth of July will become a new tradition for your family, as well. What better way to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day than under a canopy of carnival lights and fireworks in Independence Oregon?

This year’s event kicks-off the evening of Wednesday, July 3rd with a free concert and a movie in the amphitheater at Riverview Park. The next three days are filled with tons of opportunities to celebrate including the 3 mile long Rotary Grand Parade, carnival rides, traditional food and vendors, home craft and artisan booths, live entertainment and free children’s games and activities, a car show and a rubber ducky derby on the Willamette River. Each day begins and ends with a formal flag ceremony. As the flag is retired each evening, it will be presented to a local military service veteran as our community gathers to thank them for their service to our country.

Plus there is a park-wide scavenger hunt (start at the Information Booth), and if you find any of the love rocks scattered about bring them to the Independence Days Trailer located behind the Police Department, because some of them are eligible for a prize!

A magnificent fireworks display will be presented over the Willamette River and Riverview Park on July 4th in celebration of the national holiday, and again on July 6th for our Hometown Appreciation Day. Both shows begin at 10:00 pm and our vendors will remain open for business until midnight both nights.

It all winds to a close Sunday morning as local churches come together to deliver a joint outdoor service in the amphitheater, sending our families and guests into the next year with the blessings of an entire community.

The spectacular fireworks shows and live entertainment every day are made possible through a gate admission fee, for everyone ages 6 and up, of $2 per person on July 4th, and $1 per person on July 6th. These gate funds are also distributed to various school teams and charitable organizations throughout our community, as they perform tasks in support this complex event. Peak wait times can create long lines. Animals and other items are prohibited on the event grounds. Please visit the Admissions Page for more information, as well as learn how you can pre-purchase admission gate wristbands for your family or organization to avoid lines and get to the fun faster.

The Ducky Derby is a 50/50 raffle event. Duckies have an “adoption fee” of $5/each or 6 for $25. Please visit the Event Schedule page for a complete list of events as well as information on how to adopt your duckies.

There is no finer place to spend your summer holidays than here in our little piece of Americana, tucked into the heart of Oregon’s wine and tourism country.
